Top overseas players who have performed extraordinary in the Indian T20 League 2021

A lot of overseas players are auctioned by the franchises in big numbers and they perform exceptionally well in the Indian T20 League. In the 2021 season we have seen many foreign players do wonders with their bat or ball. Plessis in Chennai, Rabada in Delhi, Narine in Kolkata and the list goes on. In this article we will talk about the top players that were fan favorite in this season.

Faf du Plessis

The Chennai openers, Plessis and Gaikwad made a good impression in the 2021 season of the league. Plessis was phenomenal with his bat throughout the league and is the runner up on the list of the most runs scored. Plessis' 633 runs in the season have got him the second place just below Gaikwad who succeeds him by just 2 runs. He played with an average of 45 and gave a good head start to his team in almost all the matches. With a strike rate of 138, he has one of the best in the season. He hit 6 fifties and 83 boundaries in total. He remained at one of the top positions on the fantasy points system.

Glenn Maxwell

Bangalore's middle-order batsman, who had created a fuss for the bowlers who went against him, showed some excellent batting. Maxwell did not fail to perform in almost all the matches, and you can say that he played a big role in taking Bangalore to the qualifiers. With an average of 42.75, Maxwell scored 513 runs in 14 innings. He hit 69 boundaries that comprised 48 fours and 21 sixes. He couldn't convert any of his innings into a century, but he hit 6 fifties. Maxwell was in tremendous form in this season. Bangalore might have won against Kolkata in the qualifiers, given Maxwell had shown the same class that he was consistently showing. But unfortunately, Narine got him on just 15 runs, and that ended Bangalore's campaign.

Rashid Khan

Hyderabad remained at the bottom of the points table throughout the league, because of the poor performance of the batting order. But Rashid did not compromise with his bowling skills and gave his hundred percent in all the matches. Even though Hyderabad could not convert matches into wins, Rashid's bowling was top-notch and his team as a unit couldn't contribute much to the game. He took 18 wickets in 14 innings and bowled at an economy of 6.69. Although this was not his best season but still, he performed better than other spinners in the league and has a better record than every other spinner except Chakravarthy.

Sunil Narine

Kolkata's biggest asset, Narine never fails to impress his fans and he did the same in the 2021 season too. He took 4 wickets against Bangalore and thrashed their batting order. He bowled at a very good economy and took big wickets for his team. He just took 16 wickets in this season but at times when his team needed the wickets most.

There are other players too who had performed better. Hetmyer added depth to the Delhi's middle order and batted at a strike rate of 168, which is the most by any player. Rabada and Nortje too were exceptional in their bowling skills.

Indian T20 League: Top players that can be a part of T20 World Cup Squad

T20 Men's Cup is around the corner and selectors have already announced the squad for the championship. Though we have seen a lot of big player drops in the squad we expect we will see a change in the squad given the performance of youngsters in the current Indian T20 league.

A lot of players have shown their skills and are proving themselves in almost every match. The likes of Gaikwad and Iyer have shown their mettle in this season and can fix a spot for themselves in the T20 Men's Cup. We will talk about players that are worthy to play in the T20 Men's Cup in October.

Yuzvendra Chahal

The Bangalore's right arm spinner has always managed to bowl well for his team and even on flat pitches, he has not disappointed his team. The news of Chahal's omission from the squad came as a surprise for the cricket fans who were expecting him to see in the T20 championship. The ex-chief selector MSK Prasad also expressed his opinion on Chahal's omission and seemed to be unhappy about the decision.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Chennai's top performer, Gaikwad couldn't get a spot in the squad despite his aggressive batting style in the Indian T20 Fantasy League's current season. Gaikwad has given his all in all the matches and has never failed to contribute runs for his team and for that reason he should get a place in the squad. The championship is held in UAE and he has shown tremendous form on those pitches. Former Indian selection committee chairman Dilip Vengsarkar appreciated Gaikwad's batting in a press conference recently. Vengsarkar showed concern over Gaikwad not getting a place in the squad and said that selectors should rethink that decision.

Venkatesh Iyer

It has been a pleasure for the Kolkata fans to see Iyer play in the current season of the league. Iyer's performance has helped Kolkata win matches that were out of their hands. He has been a phenomenal batsman and the same goes with his bowling too. Hardik Pandya is ruled out as an all-rounder recently and his bat hasn't been so loud lately, as the Indian squad needs more all-rounders, Iyer might replace Pandya in the championship. Even Sunil Gavaskar recognized the sheer talent Iyer possesses and said he might be the all-rounder the Indian team is looking for.

Shardul Thakur

Thakur is one of the most underrated players on the Indian team. His performance in the Test series against England was too good and he has proved to be an asset for Chennai in the Indian T20 League. Taking Hardik's bowling into consideration, whether he will bowl or not, the Indian team would need a replacement for him. Thakur is currently in the reserves but we would most likely see him on the field in UAE.

Leading run scorer in the history of Indian T20 League

Indian T20 league has seen a lot of players evolve, especially uncapped players. We've seen the likes of Rahane, Gill, Shaw, Rahul among others evolve in the League. The League provides a platform for uncapped Indian crickets to hone their skills so that they could perform well later in their careers.

The Indian cricket carnival is a hit among cricket fans and is treated as a festival on a national level. We see overseas players play along Indian players and compete with each other. This League has also boosted the platforms for online Fantasy sports. In this article we will talk about the most run-getters in the history of the Indian T20 league.

The Run-Machine

King Kohli has scored the most runs since the League's inception. The Indian skipper plays from Bangalore and has scored a total of 6081 runs with an outstanding average of 37.77. The skipper has played a total of 200 matches and has been a support system for his mates.

The Gabbar

After Kohli, with 5619 runs Shikhar Dhawan stands on the second position on the list. Currently he leads the Delhi Capitals and has also led Hyderabad in the past. Dhawan has an average of 35.33 in the League and also holds the record for the most fours by a player. He has played a total of 185 matches and has a best score of 106 not-out.

Mr Consistent

Chennai's one of the greatest assets Suresh Raina is on the third place and has 5495 runs in his name. Scoring at an average of 39.50, Raina has been one of the most consistent players in the history of this game. Raina performs well whenever his team is under pressure and delivers a match winning performance almost every time his team is in jeopardy.

Mr Hitman

Rohit Sharma has proved to be the best captain as he has 5 Indian T20 League titles in his name. Mumbai captain has made a spot in the hearts of almost all cricketing fans in India. With 5480 runs he is on the fourth place, just behind Raina. He has a batting average of 31.49, he has 40 half-centuries in his name.

Destructive Opener

Leading his team, Hyderabad, into the playoffs and winning the title, David Warner has been the best overseas player among others also holds a place in the top 5 run getters in the League's history. Scoring 5447 run in total, Warner has one of the best strike rates. He had a tremendous 2016 season where he led his team to victory and was the second highest run scorer.

Apart from these players, de Villiers, Chris Gayle and MS Dhoni also stand just behind in the queue. With a difference of around 500-700 runs these players could also be future top run-getters.

Indian T20 League: A League Like No Other In World Cricket

Cricket has definitely established itself as India's most popular sport, capturing huge public attention, as well as financial and infrastructure backing, while other sports languish to varied degrees due to a lack of support and following.

The emergence of the Indian T20 League in 2007,  ushered in a new era of fantasy cricket leagues around the world, and it has since evolved into a platform for many to showcase their talents, more than it has helped fans to play fantasy cricket. Over the course of the league's 11 seasons, several top-class cricketers from across the world have played for local clubs, and many local Indian prospects have been found. As one of the most prominent cricket leagues in the world, this League attracts a large number of bettors.

Indian T20 League was the first T20 event to use the concept of player auctions and franchise-based ownerships; there is currently a slew of T20 leagues experimenting with similar concept. Despite the fact that these leagues are based on the same concepts as ours, India's cricketing carnival is far superior and distinct.

Henceforth, here are the reasons why Indian T20 League outplays other leagues:

One stage for all International Players
A die-hard cricket fanatic will have idols from all around the world, and seeing all of them in one place is always a dream come true. This League attracts players from all around the world, from David Warner to Steve Smith, Chris Gayle to Shakib al Hassan. These worldwide stars are the show-stoppers, and each franchisee makes sure to have a large pool of them.

Presence of Iconic Players
The notion of "Icon players" was introduced, which added a new level of loyalty. Icon players include Indian giants such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh. So, even if one did not live in one of the locations belonging to a team, he or she would support a team with the aforementioned legendary players.

Better Playing Period
The time of year in which fantasy cricket is played has been one of the most crucial times in terms of international cricket, as no other championship schedules at that time. Other significant T20 leagues, such as Australia, Pakistan and the Caribbean’s T20 League coincide with other important international cricket fixtures, which is why the elites don't participate.

High-quality leagues, including Australia’s T20 League and Pakistan’s T20 League, takes place when cricket is at its most popular in the southern hemisphere. International teams such as Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand schedule their home international matches around that time, preventing their frontline players from fully participating in such leagues. This is why April and May is such a brilliant scheduling move; the games are played in the second half of the day during the hottest, driest months of the year, and do not conflict with most countries' traditional cricketing seasons (barring England and WI). Therefore, as a result of its unique playing time period, it attracts an exclusive global audience.

The Indian T20 League season instils in us all a sense of optimism and is the true factor that keeps everyone's summer entertained and engaged. In a nutshell, this League created the perfect storm and became a league like no other in world cricket.

Online fantasy cricket app - How Indian T20 League backbone of fantasy sports?

Indian T20 League’s remaining matches will start from September 19 and fantasy platforms will plan their strategy for a big revenue. Indian T20 League is the world’s greatest and popular league in the world. If we talk about the revenue, the impact on the sports industry, broadcasting, growth of the game, and fantasy sports, this league set the big standard in recent years. Since the launch of fantasy sports, it has become the biggest brand in the world. The recent year created a big impact despite the pandemic and in the last year, Best Fantasy App India joined the industry and shared their part in revenue.

Due to some prominent advertisement and social media marketing, fantasy sports have now become a part of fan’s lives. The ratio gets higher during the Indian T20 League and these two months helped fantasy platforms to boost their revenue. Indian T20 League is the biggest market because it has a large audience compare to any league in India. This is the big reason why fantasy cricket takes speed in popularity during the Indian T20 league.

Growth of fantasy platforms with Indian T20 League

Fantasy platforms accepted the fact that the Indian T20 League played a vital role to boost their revenue. Faboom has seen the growth of 240 percent and their revenue jumped by over 5x just because of the Indian T20 League. The company clocked $1 million in revenue last year. The biggest fantasy company in India, Dream11 saw a surge of 44.4% and managed 60 million requests per minute. More than 18 million contests were joined by users and they made around 7.9 million entries in a single contest. When they were the title sponsor of this tournament, they witnessed 10x growth in traffic and 50% growth in transactions.

One of the leading fantasy platforms MyTeam11 has a user base of around 1 million in a month. They have also seen growth last year and all credit goes to Indian T20 League. They claimed that MyTeam11 saw a user-base of around 3 million which is triple their previous number. My11Circle was one step ahead and they achieved 5x growth from web and mobile traffic and 7x growth in user-base.

Evolution of brand revenue

It’s understood that revenue is the biggest aspect for fantasy platforms and they accept that the Indian T20 League offers them a bigger viewership. Last year, the leading fantasy company Dream11 won the title sponsorship for the Indian T20 League 22020. In this period, My11Circle accepted that they have spent a record amount on ads that were never spent before by them. When the new startups were evolving, the Indian T20 League gave them life. MyTeam11 also confirmed that the Indian T20 League provided them a big boost to revenue when the entire sports industry was struggling in 2020. New fantasy platforms like FanFight hit the 10 million subscriber base mark. New platforms even invested huge money in their ads and they focused on their brand by appointing big names as their brand ambassador.

Apart from MyTeam11, Dream11, and My11Circle, new apps appointed some renowned names as their brand ambassador like KL Rahul for Gamezy, Irfan Pathan for Howzat, etc. My11Circle went one step ahead and announced Bollywood star, Ranveer Singh, as their brand ambassador ahead of Indian T20 League 2021. It shows the popularity and impact of fantasy sports in India during the Indian T20 League. Dream11 appointed Dhoni as their brand ambassador and the fantasy market has evolved rapidly since then. In 2019, BCCI signed up Dream11 as Indian T20 League’s official fantasy sports partner till 2022. We saw a huge growth in the fantasy sports market. We’re sure, Indian T20 League will get more money in 2022 when so many fantasy platforms will bid for the fantasy sports partnership in Indian T20 League.
Almost all fantasy platforms invest their bigger part of money during the season of the Indian T20 League. We see new advertisements, new deals, news updates, and new offers. This is the power of the world’s most popular cricket league.

Previous success for fantasy and Indian T20 League

In last four years, we have seen a rapid rise in fantasy. The user base increased to 9 Cr From 20 lakhs in 2019. As per KPMG reports, revenue cost got triple last year as in 2019, the revenue was 924 crores and in 2020, fantasy platforms made 2470 crores. Fantasy sports platforms made 6000 corers in CEA (Contest Entry Amount) and it got double now with 16500 crores in the financial year 2020. The report also states that around 15-20% of active users on fantasy platforms are paid users. If we talk about the numbers of the previous edition of the Indian T20 League and the last season which was held in UAE saw a huge 28% increase in viewership compared to the season 2019. It was a more challenging season for organizers due to covid and we can accept one face is, user-base increased during the pandemic.

Revenue sharing and value of Indian T20 League in the fantasy industry

During the Indian T20 League, the fantasy platforms start the contest at a low price and it allows more users to participate. During the 2021 season, My11Circle came up with the idea of Rs 1 to 1 crore and they increased their user base. Cricket is India’s biggest game and this game takes around 85% of the share of the CEA. How Indian T20 League is important for fantasy platforms? We can understand this by the downfall of the fantasy platform during the lockdown and the tournament was postponed. Cricket came back in July 2020 but it didn’t make a big effect on their revenue. Fantasy platforms revived their user base and revenue when the Indian T20 League was held in UAE. Indian T20 League constitutes 35-40% of the industry revenue.

KPMG’s report states that fantasy platforms deduct 10-20% of the prize money and Dream11 has reduced its fee for private contests from 15% to 5% last year. The market is now close to 16500 crores in revenue from CEA and 2500 crore of revenue comes from the revenue of operators. These data are based on the financial year 2020.

Conclusion: 2020 was the year that saw a bigger growth in both fantasy and the Indian T20 League. 28% more viewership than last season and triple revenue of fantasy platforms than previous year showcase us the better relation between Indian T20 League and fantasy sports platforms. Both stand at the top and the bigger number & margin of growth assure us to play fantasy cricket is popular in Indian T20 League.

Delhi and Bangalore will kick off their Ahmedabad leg tonight with a high-voltage clash in the Indian T20 League 2021. Both sides are in tremendous form and lost just one game out of five. They made few mistakes in the batting when they posted 159 despite getting a solid start from the openers.

Steve Smith might be dropped this time and Delhi can take Rahane back in the squad. Noprtje can play his first game and Delhi would go ahead with only two spinners on this surface. Ravi Ashwin will not be available now so Axar Patel and Amit Mishra will take charge in the spin. Delhi has the calibre to extend this winning run and they have done it convincingly. They have a good balance and this is the big reason, they are entering as the favourites.

On the other hand, Bangalore suffered their first defeat of the season against Chennai and they also have one loss out of five. With 8 points, they now slipped to third and Kohli’s troops would look to take the top spot back. In the previous game, Harshal Patel’s one over changed the game for Bangalore but the batting unit didn’t even stand against Chennai.

The margin of defeat gave them a big scar. Kane Richardson has pulled himself out of the season so Bangalore will carry with Daniel Christian. Rajat Patidar can also come in the playing XI. Bangalore has been terrific this year with their bowling and once again, Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj will have a big responsibility.

Pitch Behaviour

Motera’s track is good for batting but it offers good assistance to spinners. We have seen pitch providing help to bowlers in the India-England series. Dew might play a role in 2nd innings so chasing would be a good call after winning the toss.

Probable XI

Indian T20 League 2021: Punjab vs Delhi, Match Prediction Predicted XI | Fantasy Picks

Punjab and Delhi will fight out in the second clash of Sunday in the Indian T20 League Both had a good start to the season but suffered defeat in the next game.
Punjab enters in each game with some concern. When they finished the first game, bowlers let them down despite having a 4-run victory against Rajasthan. Now, after playing the second game, questions are on their batting. Punjab scored only 106 against Chennai on a pure flat track. Expecting 106 in Mumbai is a surprising thing as we saw a big chase from Rajasthan on same ground when they almost chased down 221.

Top-order couldn’t survive against the new ball and Chahar trapped them in swing. Shah Rukh Khan was a positive thing from last game. They can now trust Hooda and Shah Rukh Khan in middle-order. Punjab has to promote Pooran in batting order. They can also see some positives in bowling unit. All four seamers troubled Chennai in the chase of 107 and picked four wickets. Punjab is expected to go ahead with the same playing XI.

On the other hand, Delhi suffered a close defeat in their last game against Rajasthan, Their batsmen let them down in first innings but bowlers opened the route to victory before Chris Morris show with the bat. Death-bowling failed to change the game but they can proud of this effort. Lalit Yadav was handed the debut in last game and Delhi tried three overseas pacers.

Ponting can try Steve Smith this time to boost their middle-order. Delhi requires a solid batsman in the middle-order who can step up if the top-order fails to deliver. Delhi also struggled against the new ball and scored only 32 in the powerplay. Delhi would not make any biog change except for Steve Smith. Nortje will miss a couple of games as he has to complete his quarantine after finding himself negative. Delhi is strong favorites on Sunday night as they have the side that can counter Punjab.

Pitch Behaviour

Wankhede’s track is an ideal batting track and it also offers good assistance to pacers. In last two games, we saw some movement with the new ball. Any score above 180 would be a competitive one.

Probable XI

Punjab

KL Rahul (c & wk), Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Deepak Hooda, Shahrukh Khan, Jhye Richardson, Murugan Ashwin, Riley Meredith, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh

Indian T20 League 2021: Delhi vs Chennai, Match Prediction, Predicted XI | Fantasy Picks

New-look Delhi will start their campaign under new skipper Rishabh Pant and they will meet 3-times winner Chennai at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Delhi has improved their game since they changed the name and appointed Rickey Ponting as their new head coach. After finishing eighth in 2018, Delhi easily made it into the playoffs in the next two seasons.

They played their first-ever Indian T20 League final in 2020. They are favourites to crack playoffs for third successive seasons but Ponting is looking for the title this time. Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the tournament but their backup plan is pretty strong and they rely on their Indian batting lineup which is in good form.

Read More: Indian T20 League 2021 Team Analysis of Delhi

Dhawan was the top scorer for Delhi last season with two centuries and Prithvi Shaw is coming off a tremendous domestic form. Shaw improved his game and he might be a standout performer for Delhi. Rahane will now take the charge at number three and Pant will bat at number four. Delhi has the good options at number five like Hetmyer, Smith and Billings. Hetmyer will get the final nod from Ponting and Stoinis will come at six. They have Ashwin and Axar who will be two front-line spinners. These two can offer batting options at down-order. Delhi’s pace-attack is also in good form with Rabada and Nortje. They have the perfect team combination for the shorter format of cricket.

Meanwhile, Chennai would enter as the underdogs in 2021 as cricket experts are not giving them an advantage this time. Chennai missed out on playoffs for the first time in 2020 and they invested some amount in auction 2021. Chennai will welcome Suresh Raina at number three but miss Shane Watson in top-order who made the retirement last year. Gaikwad and Uthappa may open for Chennai to find Plessis in middle-order or Chennai can even send Faf with Gaikwad to try Moeen Ali in middle-order. Raina and Rayudu will come at numbers three and four. Sam Curran and Jadeja might be promoted up in the order.

Read More: Indian T20 League 2021 Team Analysis of Chennai

They will surely lack the finisher in the end but Dhoni can sort it out. We can understand that the spark is missing in Chennai in this department. The Bowling combination will be the same. Deepak Chahar will start the innings with the new ball and Shardul Thakur will join him as the 2nd pacer. Dhoni can pick Imran Tahir to boost the spin option. They also have an option of Gowtham who can offer a good balance with bat and ball. Mumbai’s surface doesn’t suit the style of Chennai but their game will be led by Dhoni who can change the game with his masterclass tactics. How Dhoni gets out the best version from his players will be the key thing for Chennai.

Pitch Behaviour

Wankhede’s surface is a pure batting paradise and in night games, it offers high-scoring games. Batting would be easier and we may expect a little bit help to spin. Chasing would be a great call after winning the toss.

Probable XI

Chennai

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (C & WK), Dwayne Bravo/Imran Tahir, Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar

Delhi

Top 5 Leading wicket-takers for Chennai in the history of the Indian T20 League

Chennai’s history in Indian T20 League is remarkable and they are the most consistent side with winning three titles. MS Dhoni-led this side for all seasons, excluding two seasons in 2016 and 2017 when the franchise were banned.

Chennai missed the playoffs only once in 2020 and they were the first team that defended their title in Indian T20 League. In the last 13 years, Chennai produced some exciting bowlers and gave us some young Indian talents who later cracked the national call-up.

In this segment, we pick the top five leading wicket-takers for Chennai in Indian T20 League:

Dwayne Bravo

Dwyane Bravo is the hot property of the Indian T20 League and last year, he becomes the first bowler to complete 500 wickets in the T20 format. He is the second fast bowler after Malinga who has 150 plus wickets in Indian T20 League.

He has played two seasons for Gujarat when Chennai were banned. Bravo has picked up 153 wickets at an average of 24.82 and for Chennai, he grabbed 110 wickets. Bravo won two titles with the franchise and he also won the purple cap for Chennai once. He has the record of most wickets in a single season with 32 wickets in 2013. He has seen some fitness issues in the last couple of years but Bravo is still the key figure of Chennai.

Ravi Ashwin

The legendary Indian spinner Ashwin was an important part of the franchise and he won two titles for Chennai in 2010 and 2011. Out of seven seasons, Ashwin picked up 90 wickets at an average of 24.22 and his economy was excellent with 6.45. He played a vital role for Chennai to retain the trophy in 2011 by picking 20 wickets from 16 matches. In his debut season (2009), he made a huge impact by picking 13 wickets and his economy was 6.10. His impressive performance earned him an international debut for India.

Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja has been skillful with the bowl and Dhoni used him as the main spinner in his initial years. Jadeja can become a 100 wickets holder for Chennai in 2021. He has 87 wickets to his name at an average of 26.81. He has the record of best spell for Chennai in the Indian T20 League with five wickets haul for 16. He also has two 4-wicket hauls for the franchise. His best season came in 2014 when he picked up 19 wickets and Chennai made into the finals.

Albie Morkel

Morkel had the charge of Chennai’s bowling attack in the initial years and he did a wonderful job. South African pacer has 76 wickets at an average of 27.02. In the inaugural season, he grabbed 17 wickets and Chennai reached the finals. He picked 15 wickets in the 2011 season to take Chennai to second title triumph.

Mohit Sharma

Mohit Sharma is the only Indian pacer in this category and he was the regular player for Chennai since his debut. His fine performance earned him an international debut and he represented India in the 2015 WC. He has 58 wickets to his name at an average of 22.17. He was the leading wicket-taker for Chennai in the 2014 season with 23 wickets at an average of 19.65. In his debut season (2013) he scalped 20 wickets and helped Chennai to enter into the fourth successive Indian T20 League finals.
